12 Scholarships in the Netherlands You Should Apply Today

Apart from the UK and GermanyThe Netherlands is one of the best places for international students looking for free study in Europe.

Dutch universities offer many scholarships funded by the Dutch government and institutions, and the degrees they offer are widely recognized throughout the world.

Highlighted below are some of the available scholarships that Nigerians can apply for before the 2023 session.

1: Holland Scholarships
International students from countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree at participating universities in the Netherlands are eligible for the Netherlands Scholarship. You will receive the scholarship, valued at €5,000, during the first academic year.

2: Orange Knowledge Program
The Orange Knowledge Program aims to promote individual and organizational development in higher and vocational education, as well as in other areas related to the priority themes of the program countries. An OKP scholarship is intended to supplement the salary you will continue to receive during the scholarship period. The scholarship contributes to the cost of living and costs such as tuition, visa, travel, insurance, etc.

3: Erasmus Mundus Scholarships in the Netherlands
Dutch universities participate in a variety of study programs funded by Erasmus Mundus scholarships. The scholarships allow international students to follow an Erasmus Mundus study program in the Netherlands.

4: Leiden University Excellence Scholarships.
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Program (LExS) is open to outstanding non-EU/EEA students enrolled in any of Leiden University’s MA, MSc or LL.M programmes. The scholarships have a value of €10,000 of tuition, €15,000 of tuition or total tuition minus the house fee.

5: Maastricht University High Potential Scholarships.
Maastricht University (UM) offers High Potential Scholarships to talented students from outside the EEA to pursue any UM Masters or Postgraduate Program for Professionals, with the exception of the School of Business and Economics. The scholarships cover tuition, monthly living expenses, insurance, and visa costs.

6: Radboud University Scholarship Program
The Radboud Scholarship Program provides a limited number of talented prospective non-EEA students with the opportunity to pursue a full Master’s program in English at Radboud University Nijmegen.

Tuition fee for an EEA student will be waived and costs will be covered.

7: Utrecht University Excellence Scholarships.
The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship offers some outstanding prospective students the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a selected number of fields at Utrecht University. The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship can be awarded as tuition fees OR tuition fees plus 11,000 euros of living expenses.

8: Erik Bleumink Scholarships at the University of Groningen
Erik Bleumink Fund Scholarships are generally awarded for any 1- or 2-year Master’s degree program offered at the University of Groningen. The grant covers tuition fees plus international travel expenses, subsistence allowance, books, and health insurance.

9: TU Delft Excellence Scholarships
The Justus and Louise van Effen Scholarship aims to financially support outstanding international Master’s students who wish to study at TU Delft. The scholarship is a full scholarship, which covers tuition and living expenses on a monthly basis.

10: Amsterdam Merit Scholarships
The University of Amsterdam aims to attract the world’s brightest students from outside the European Economic Area to apply for an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship. Depending on the faculty, the scholarship can vary between €2,000 – €25,000.

11: Twente University Scholarships
The University of Twente (UTS) Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students from EU/EEA countries and non-EU/EEA countries who are pursuing a postgraduate (MSc) program at the University of Twente. For one year, the amount of the scholarship ranges from €6,000 to €25,000.

12: VU University Amsterdam Scholarship Program
The VU Scholarship Program (VUFP) rewards talented prospective students from outside the EU/EEA to pursue a degree in a variety of Master’s programs at VU University.

The scholarship awards €15,000 to non-EEA students paying tuition fees.
