Abuja woman commits suicide, dead body, baby found in bush

A yet to be identified nursing mother committed suicide, abandoning her son in a bush where his body was discovered along the Suuka airport road in the Federal Capital Territory.

PUNCH Subway deduced that on Monday an empty bottle of insecticide was found next to his body in the bush.

A local resident, who gave his name simply as Nnaji for security reasons, told our correspondent that the victim’s body was found when passersby heard her baby crying in the bush.

Nnaji said: “The dead body of a middle-aged woman was seen in a bush in our area on Monday night. A two-year-old girl was sitting next to her crying.

“It was even his scream that drew passersby to the scene of the incident. We got there and found an empty bottle of insecticide next to him; His body smelled of insecticide. She is not a well-known person in the area and no one knows what led her to do this.”

Contacted, FCT police spokeswoman DSP Josephine Adeh said the body had been deposited in a morgue, adding that the boy was in police custody while they searched for the woman’s relatives.

She said: “I can confirm that this case was reported in our division in Iddo. The body has been deposited in the morgue of the Abuja University Teaching Hospital.

“We cannot rush to the conclusion that he drank snipers, an autopsy will be performed to determine the true cause of death.”
