Adamawa State University, Mubi will hold its 14th convocation ceremony on Tuesday, where academic qualifications will be awarded to a total of 2,594 graduating students, ranging from diplomas, degrees and postgraduate degrees.
Professor Kaletapwa G. Farauta, ADSU Vice Chancellor and running mate of State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, at a press conference organized to announce the activities marking the convocation ceremony on Sunday, said that the first grade, the institution has 23 first class honors winners.
He also said that Prof. Elias Bogoro, former Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, would be awarded the honorary Doctor of Science in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of tertiary education in Nigeria.
She said: “For the first grades, we have 23 in the First Class (with honors) category. In the Upper Second Class (Honours) Division, we have a total of 635, while the Lower Second Class (Honours) Division has 1,448 graduates. 200 belong to the category of third class (with honor) and 18 would graduate with approved degrees. This brings the total number of our first degree graduates to 2,408.
“For postgraduate courses, where we have a Postgraduate Diploma, Professional Master’s Degree, Master’s Degree with Research Thesis, Master’s Degree in Philosophy and Doctorate in Philosophy respectively, this prestigious University will graduate 186 graduates among our faculties.”
The Chancellor also used the occasion to highlight some of the achievements recorded by the institution, including its latest ranking as the first state university in the Northeast, third university in the entire Northeast and 79th in the country.
He also claimed that five students who graduated as the best overall graduate students from the last convocation ceremony and were granted automatic employment by order of Fintiri were now employed at the institution and attending further study on a scholarship.
A professor in the accounting department emerged as the best candidate in the Nigerian National Institute of Chartered Accountants Professional Level Qualifying Examination for 2021, Kaletapwa said in her speech.
