Born September 25, 1929 in Boston, Barbara Walters is an American journalist. She is the daughter of a businessman who owns many clubs in New York. She studied in Miami, and graduated in English literature from Sarah Lawrence College in New York State.
She began her journalism career in 1952 on the Today show . She appears on other shows like The Tonight Show Johnny Carson’s . Then in 1965, she became the first woman to host a news program alongside Harry Reasoner. Eleven years later, she fronted her own show The Barbara Walters Special .
She is known for her numerous reports, as well as her interviews and her positions. His first major interview was with Monica Lewinsky after Monicagate. She carries out numerous interviews with heads of state, both American such as Richard Nixon, and foreign, with Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Hugo Chavez, or Fidel Castro.
In 2014, she was at the heart of a controversy, after having defended the director Woody Allen, after the accusations of his adopted daughter. In 2017, as the Weinstein affair was revealed, an interview with Barbara Walters was brought up to date. In it, the journalist criticizes an actor speaking about sexual assault in the cinema industry of harming the industry.
On the private side, she married Lee Guber in 1963, then divorced from him in 1976. She remarried in 1986 with Merv Adelson, and divorced again in 1992.
On December 31, 2022, Barbara Walters died at the age of 93.
