Stranded in Belfast: stuck cruise ship’s World Tour Halted by Technical Glitches
Disillusioned travelers facing endless waiting. As reported by the BBC , Thursday August 28, a stuck cruise ship intended to take just over 900 people for a trip around the world in three years has been blocked in the port of Belfast, in Northern Ireland, since May 30. The Villa Vie Residences Odyssey initially promised to introduce its occupants to no less than 425 destinations across 147 countries, but major technical problems, notably with the rudders and the gearbox, have immobilized the stuck cruise ship for more than three months.
The stuck cruise ship 929 passengers, mostly Americans, spent between $99,000 and $899,999 on their cabins during the entire voyage. Without knowing when their boat will be able to leave, the company has decided to compensate them by offering them several alternatives such as hotel stays, replacement cruises and land excursions across Europe and in particular in Spain, Liverpool or even Amsterdam.
“We now have the feeling of truly belonging to the local population”
Among the passengers, a couple who previously lived in Nicaragua took the opportunity to take a train trip through Spain and plan several weekends in England and Greenland. They tell our colleagues that they now know Belfast like the back of their hand and declare that they have eaten in all the restaurants and drank Guinness in all the pubs in the city. “ We now feel like we truly belong to the local population ,” the couple’s husband told British media. A great way to put things into perspective before setting off.
