BREAKING: NANS Declares National Protest Monday


NANS has declared a national protest on Monday.

NaijaOnPoint reports that the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students has declared a nationwide protest to demand the release of a student from Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Mohammed, who was arrested and sent to prison for a tweet about Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari.

NANS Chairman Usman Barambu, in a statement obtained by NaijaOnPoint Nigeria on Thursday, said the protest, due to start on Monday, would be indefinite until Mohammed was released.

This online news had previously reported that NANS apologized to the First Lady and also called for the student’s release. This doesn’t work, NANS said he had exhausted query and consolidation options, and would therefore be facing.

“Sequence of the exhaustion of all options available to us prior to the confrontation seeking the freedom of one of us who was questionably arrested, tortured, molested, harassed, and detained by government agents, you are hereby notified of the management decision. of NANS to proceed to a nationwide protest.

“We have consulted and consolidated what did not yield desirable results in the search for the freedom of Muhammad, therefore the protest will begin as follows: Monday, December 5, 2022 throughout the country.

“Please note that our demonstration will continue until you are released unconditionally,” the statement said.

NaijaOnPoint it deduced that security agents reportedly picked up Mohammed, tracked him down to Jigawa and brought him to Abuja in November.

Subsequently, Judge Halilu Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory High Court sent Mohammed to the Suleja Correctional Center in Niger state for allegedly damaging the first lady’s reputation.

Adamu’s arrest has generated reactions on social media, with Nigerian notables calling for his release.

Barambu noted that the NANS protest would be against the First Lady and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.
