chainsaw man is currently progressing through its first season, and the animated The adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s best-selling manga is taking viewers on a wild ride. Dub cast members Ryan Colt Levy and Reagan Murdock, who play Denji and Aki in the series, believe the chainsaw man animated it is nothing short of “amazing”. The pair spoke to Showbiz Cheat Sheet about what drew them to the show, as well as what they’re looking forward to in future installments.
Ryan Colt Levy and Reagan Murdock joining the dubbing cast of ‘Chainsaw Man’
chainsaw man is one of biggest anime to debut in 2022, and the dubbing cast knew it was something special from the start. Both Ryan Colt Levy and Reagan Murdock were drawn to the anime, and its specific characters, even before they landed the roles.
Levy, who voices Denji, was a fan of chainsaw manThe manga came years before its transition to the small screen. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s source material resonated with him for multiple reasons, including the fact that it has all the makings of a good storytelling.
“For me, I picked it up a couple of years ago and read it through several times because it was so mind-blowing to me,” Levy recalled. “As a story, and executed in the manga in its entirety, it is one of the most punk rock, funny, emotional, tender, sweet, strange, art and essay. [tales]. It has everything, and I didn’t expect that.”
A self-proclaimed “movie nerd,” Levy also appreciates how Fujimoto’s cinematic history feels:
“I think what originally drew me to the manga is that I got that feeling of [Tatsuki] Fujimoto that he also has that cinematographic knowledge and all those flavors. And it seemed so radically different to me than anything else I’d ever seen or read, and it took all the classic tropes that we know about these things and just tore them apart or flipped them in a way that I was like, ‘This is what I’ve been waiting for. !’”
Reagan Murdock, who plays Aki in chainsaw manEnglish dub, had not read the series before auditioning for the cast. However, once she picked it up, she fell in love with the characters, especially him.
“When I first got the auditions, I basically knew nothing about the show,” Murdock said. “I knew it was very popular. So, I thought, ‘Well, there’s no way I’m going to get this, so I can do whatever I want.’ But when I was reading the manga to get an idea of the different characters, I loved Aki so much, and I loved how human all the characters are.”
Murdock also noted that the characters’ goals and relationships with one another are strengths of the series:
“They all have very credible and very relatable motivations. And it’s wonderful to be able to see all their different personalities bounce off each other. And I think the main draw is that you have these very understandable people who come from very different backgrounds and look at the way that… Well, they don’t all make each other better, but they certainly make each other. more interesting.”
The ‘Chainsaw Man’ Voice Cast Shares A ‘Passion’ For The Story They Are Telling
The dubbing cast of chainsaw man They do not record together in the studio, but they had the opportunity to meet during the New York Comic-Con this year. According to Ryan Colt Levy, the event served as “a core family experience” that allowed them to “solidify our dynamic as a family.”
That’s not something that happens with all anime, as the voice actors don’t always meet before recording their lines. As Murdock said: “You have to make some guesses about the choices they’re going to make.”
With the chainsaw man dubbing, it seems that the cast can trust each other’s decisions. Everyone understands what the program means to others. Murdock cited that the highlight of working on the anime is the passion they all share for its story:
“This is the first time I’ve had a series where I’ve gotten to know and get to know the people I’m working with before I start shooting because you don’t get much with anime. So it’s wonderful to know that the people you work with are also super passionate. We love this story very much.”
Levy echoed that sentiment, emphasizing that everyone involved is doing their best to bring chainsaw man to the life.
“Miguel [McFarland] He’s an amazing voice director and he really has a great understanding of these characters and all of us as individual people,” Levy said. “He really cares about serving this story and these characters in the best way, and all of us are really trying to give him as much care as possible.”
According to the voice actors, the reception of ‘Chainsaw Man’ has been ‘amazing’
Attending New York Comic-Con gave chainsaw man‘s dub cast the opportunity to meet his co-stars. He also offered a firsthand look at the fan response. According to Ryan Colt Levy, the reception has been “incredible”.
“When we screened the first episode at Comic-Con, there was a room of about 5,000 people watching that episode on a big screen,” Levy recalled. “And just hearing the gasping and the screaming and the laughing and all of that, it was so cathartic.”
“Seeing so many people enjoying it makes it even better and makes me want to work even harder,” he added. “It’s like every time I get back in the booth, I just want to give more and more and more.”
Reagan Murdock agreed, admitting that it feels great to see so many viewers connect with the show.
“I am amazed to be a part of something that is resonating with so many people,” Murdock said. “That’s what we always want as artists, to be able to reach out and touch and, if we can, inspire people because that’s what art has done for us. And the reception from the fans has been fantastic. It’s amazing because I’ve never been a part of something this big to see all the content that people are producing.”
Ryan Colt Levy and Reagan Murdock share what they hope for in ‘Chainsaw Man’
Both Ryan Colt Levy and Reagan Murdock have read chainsaw man, so the voice actors know what to expect while the cast continues filming. For Levy, there are many exciting developments on the horizon. He’s especially excited for fans to get to know the characters even better:
“For those who think that what has already happened is a lot in a short time, this barely scratches the surface of the journey that all these characters can take. There are a lot of humorous moments, and there are a lot of really powerful moments that I’m really excited to play with. Because I think, you know, we’ve only seen a little bit of the spectrum of all these characters, who they are, and they’re presented to us so deeply. But also, you can see the other shoe getting ready to drop somewhere.”
Murdock noted that viewers will see a different side of Aki, specifically. Although the Devil Hunter seems incredibly content, it looks like he might lose his composure.
“With Aki, in particular, he’s someone who has this idea, I think, that he has to be in control of himself and every part of his life to the letter,” Murdock explained. “Otherwise, what is he? And there are moments when you take a little peek behind the curtain. And sometimes those walls just come crashing down.”
If that will happen in chainsaw man Season 1 or later remains to be seen.
Ryan Colt Levy and Reagan Murdock reveal what object they would merge with
chainsaw man is about a boy merging with a chainsaw demon. So, we asked Ryan Colt Levy and Reagan Murdock what item they would merge with if given the chance. Both offered relatable responses.
“You know, the easy answer for me is coffee,” Levy said. “If I could permanently merge with caffeine, I think that would be fine.”
“Could you give the same answer with the tea?” Murdock added. “If I could calm down a bit and not be so anxious all the time, that would be wonderful.”
Fusing with drinks certainly sounds more appealing than becoming part of a chainsaw. But then again, Denji seems to be reaping the benefits of this latest situation.
