Container falls on vehicles and kills bus driver in Cele Lagos


A container traveling at the Cele Bus stop along the Oshodi-Apapa highway in Lagos state fell on some vehicles, killing the drivers of a commercial bus.

This was confirmed by officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

A passerby told Naijaonpoint that the incident has since caused heavy traffic along the route.

LASEMA’s response: LASEMA chief Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said in a statement that the agency’s LRT reached the scene as soon as possible. He described the scene of the accident, saying:

  • “There were multiple accidents involving a MACK truck with an unknown registration number carrying twin 20-foot containers, a Volkswagen bus with registration number AKD 489XZ, a Highlander SUV with registration number AGL 366FP and a Toyota RAV4 with registration number AAA 353FH. -location mentioned.”

Cause of the accident: The LASEMA statement added that further information gathered at the scene revealed that the driver of the truck lost control due to mechanical failure (brake failure) while going at full speed, before ramming the vehicles in front of him.

“Unfortunately, an adult male (bus driver) lost his life in the incident, while four injured victims: three men and one woman have been transported to hospital.

“Pending recovery operation since the environment is loaded with street urchins attacking people in the place. However, the remains of the deceased have been bagged and handed over to relatives.

“The Agency has requested police coverage to manage the safety of our first responders.”
