Emefiele: ‘Bullion Van Politicians’ after CBN – Atiku Campaign


The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organization has called for restraint following the onslaught on Nigerian Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.

This was disclosed in a statement By Kola Ologbondiyan, Atiku PCC spokesperson, seen by Nairametrics.

Position of the PDP in this regard: The statement came after a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday rejected a request by the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest and detain CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.

Therefore, the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organization urged caution and pointed out the sensitivity of the CBN office. The organization said:

  • “Atiku Campaign has carefully reviewed the onslaught against the CBN Governor and calls for restraint, given the sensitivity of his position to the Nation’s economy. politicians who run bullion van operations” as a source.
  • “The backdrop of apprehension that overly ambitious politicians are running vans of gold bullion and raw money to destroy the nation’s financial institutions, in particular the CBN, for self-serving political interests.
  • “Our campaign advises these politicians to market their programs to Nigerians, if they have them, and put an end to their damnable hope of buying votes.”

The PDP urged that monetary policy stability is of paramount importance, including economic growth and well-being of Nigerians.

The lawsuit, with reference number FHC/Abj/CS/2255/2022, had the Department of State Services as plaintiff.

DSS was trying to arrest Emefiele on accusations that bothered “acts of financing of terrorism, fraudulent activities and economic crimes with a national security dimension.
