Doha: The first two rounds of the 2022 FIFA World Cup ended yesterday with the Portugal-Uruguay match. Among the thirty-two teams, the fates of five teams are sealed.
Three teams have qualified for the round of 16 and two have no chance of qualifying. France defeated Australia 4-1 in the first game and beat Denmark 2-1. Thus, Les Blues became the first team to qualify for the R16. Two teams qualified for the R16 yesterday. A shout from Casemiro at 82′ set Brazil’s position in the round of 16. Brazil defeated Serbia 2-0 in the first round thanks to Richarlison. In a first round winners game, Brazil won against Switzerland.

Portugal and Ghana starred in one of the most exciting matches of the World Cup. Los Navegantes defeated the Black Stars 3-2 in the first round and annihilated Uruguay yesterday. Thus, Cristiano Ronaldo joins Neymar and Mbappé in the round of 16.
On the other hand, the hosts are out of the World Cup. Qatar is the second host to fail to qualify for the R16 after South Africa in 2010. The Maroons lost both games, 2-0 against Ecuador in the first game and 3-1 against Senegal. The Maroons may not even win or draw a single game considering they will be facing the Netherlands. Canada, which is one of the surprise entrants in the World Cup, faced Belgium in the opening of the tournament. Although they scored their first World Cup goal, Canada was unable to beat Croatia. Two losses added misery to the team’s further standings.
The fate of another 27 hangs by a thread. The last round is very crucial as the search for another thirteen R16 entrants looms ahead.
