France have been plagued with injuries leading up to and during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and now another concern has surfaced. According to reports from the France squad, due to a knee injury, the striker Olivier Giroud it is a doubt for the party. Giroud has been an important member of the France team, but manager Didier Deschamps may be forced to play without his preferred striker.
What is the condition of the France team before the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final?
According to sources, France attempted half of their training session with Giroud and the second half with Marcus Thuram, as it is unclear if the 36-year-old will be available to face Argentina.
Deschamps expected a team in top form, barring Karim Benzema and Lucas Hernandez, after a quintet returned to training on Saturday after a combination of illness and injury plagued the French camp.
However, absentees such as Raphael Varane, Ibrahima Konate, Kingsley Coman, Aurelien Tchouameni and Theo Hernandez returned after missing Friday’s training, giving the French team a significant boost.
Who will replace Giroud at the front?
Giroud was replaced by Thuram in the 2-0 semi-final win over Morocco, a decision praised by Deschamps because it allowed kylian mbappe to move into a central position and both him and Thuram to press from the front, allowing for more defensive stability.
Deschamps could have used Thuram off the bench again, but now he may be forced to start in place of Giroud, who has already scored four goals in Qatar and has a good chance of beating Mbappe and Lionel Messi for the Golden Boot.
