Amazon Prime Video formally ordered a TV series based primarily on the 2018 PlayStation online game God of Conflict. Earlier this year, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan acknowledged that a TV adaptation of God of Conflict was in the works, but declined to reveal much more about the project. And while there is still no information on the actors, Amazon has now checked that this God of Conflict TV show could be making a lot of progress.
Amazon Studios and Sony Photos TV said that the TV version of God of Conflict will definitely be featured in a new press release. Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) will direct the series, with Mark Fergus (Iron Man) and Hawk Ostby (The Expanse) writing and producing. Cory Barlog, the game director for God of Conflict, could also function as a producer for the government.
Amazon also acknowledged that the show will be a direct adaptation of 2018’s God of Conflict game, which picks up well after Kratos’ travels in the Greek kingdom.
“The series follows Kratos, the god of conflict, who, after going into exile from his blood-soaked past in storied Greece, hangs up his endless weapons in the Norse realm of Midgard,” the press release description for the series reads. TV series. “When his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his estranged son to remove her ashes from the greatest peak: the remaining wish of his wife. Kratos quickly realizes that the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one that may verify the ties between father and son, and lead Kratos to fight new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.
Overall, God of Conflict is yet another commitment by Sony to broaden the reach of its many PlayStation properties. Sony is now involved in live-action TV shows for Horizon Zero Daybreak, The Final of Us, Twisted Metallic, and now God of Conflict. That’s along with Uncharted, which opened in theaters last year and was quickly declared by Sony to be the start of a new movie franchise for the agency. While Sony will only continue to create new games on the PlayStation 5, it’s obvious that the company will be working hard to diversify and broaden the reach of its properties outside of the online gaming medium.
