Who was Great Scar?
Before signing to Gucci Mane’s label in 2020, Big Scarr had been making waves in the Memphis underground rap scene since 2017 when he released his first single “Grim.” His debut mixtape Big Grim Reaper followed in 2021 and showcased his lyrical prowess and songwriting talent. It featured guest appearances by Pooh Shiesty, Foogiano, Tay Keith, NoCap, and Moneybagg Yo, as well as production by 808 Mafia and Young Kio, among others.
Big Grim Reaper’s success earned him a spot on XXL Magazine’s Freshman Class list alongside other up and coming rappers like Lil Durk, Rod Wave and NLE Choppa this month alone. Big Scarr also appeared on Gucci Mane’s album Woptober II, as well as other projects such as Foogiano’s Trap Holiday 2 and Pooh Shiesty’s Shiesty Season mixtape. He had recently collaborated with DJ Paul for a song titled “Big Lats”, which is set to be released later this year.

Unfortunately, we will never know what else this talented rapper had in store for us because he died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the age of 22. The exact cause of death has not yet been revealed, but it is possible that it was a drug overdose.

Big Scarr has reportedly passed away. He had just finished a major year and was preparing to tour with Key Glock and perform at Rolling Loud LA next year. The worst thing is that he died just before the holidays.

His work will live on through of his music, which showcased both his lyrical abilities and songwriting prowess, a testament to what could have been an incredible career in music had tragedy not taken him from us so soon.
