The retention lists for the next edition of IPL are officially out. The trade and deal window ran through November 15 and concluded with all teams setting up their core players. The four-time champions Chennai Super Kings did not participate in any trade offers In addition, the team decided to rank their existing players first. The rest now depends on the mini-auction that will take place in Kochi on December 23.
In a shock twist, Chennai Super Kings have released their star player of years, Dwayne Bravo. CSK’s last season in IPL was not very good, in fact one of the worst in years. And his retention list shows some evidence of how that affected management’s decision to restore the team. Furthermore, defying all the vague rumorsthe team has retained SUV Ravindra Jadeja. Despite the latest updates, a CSK official has reiterated plans for released players to return to the mini-auction.
The selection management has shown confidence in its retentions of mega-auctions with Ruturaj Gaikwad stay on the team. MS Dhoni is obviously on the list and despite last year’s shake-ups, he will lead the team this year. Also, his bowling lineup resembles that of last year with young guns like Mukesh Chaudhary and Matheesa Pathirana retained. Deepak Chahar also stands out within the team along with Maheesh Theekshana. With the holds and releases in place, CSK will order the remaining 7 slots in the mini-auction.
