Lagos residents can now obtain international driving licenses

Nigerians living in Lagos are now eligible for International Driving Permit license from December 2022.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) in Lagos, Mr. Akin-George Fashola, on Thursday in Lagos.

He said that the issuance of International Vehicle Certificates and International Driving Permits are in line with international requirements.

International requirements: The Director General noted that all stakeholders were involved while finalizing the issuance process, citing that international driving licenses were in line with international requirements.

It also revealed that the permit, as specified in section 326(U) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Act (TSRL) 2018, included a vehicle class or description and a vehicle examination. He then urged that privately registered vehicles that have been within five years of the date of manufacture are exempt from the mandatory computerized routine inspection carried out by the VIS.

  • “The mandatory computerized routine inspection is set forth in schedule 1, section 326(10) of the state TSRL, 2018, noting that pre-registration (Auto Vin) inspections would have registered such vehicles for exemption.
  • “All that will be required of the owners of such vehicles is to obtain a Certificate of Exemption from the VIS. The exclusion is one of the ways to prevent Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centers across the state from becoming saturated with vehicles.” Fashola said.

The director also revealed that the VIS had begun to clamp down on dilapidated commercial vehicles.

In case you missed it: Remember that Nairametrics previously reported that The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), has announced plans to create additional vehicle parking lane markings at selected locations across the state.

LASPA said parking lane markings would further guide motorists and pedestrians on appropriate parking regulations and spaces and minimize indiscriminate parking, confusion and uncertainty, while conveying a variety of information to residents. about parking procedures within each specific environment.
