The leadership of the Movement for the Update of the Sovereign State of Biafra criticized the Federal Government for its decision to cancel the reconstruction of the eastern railway project.
MASSOB in a statement in Owerri, the Imo state capital on Friday issued by its leader, Uchenna Madu, accused the FG of deliberately marginalizing the people of the southeast region in infrastructure development.
The separatist group said that the FG had continued to use funds obtained from oil deposits in the southeast region to develop the northern states to the detriment of the Igbo people.
MASSOB also rejected an FG report that workers at the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company were incessantly harassed by youths in Abia State.
The group said the Chinese construction company had not started its work in Abia state.
The statement read: “The leadership of the Movement for the Upgrading of the Sovereign State of Biafra disagreed and criticized the Federal Government of Nigeria for its resolution to cancel the reconstruction of the eastern railway project on the excuse of not having money to finance the Project.
“The federal government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari is not ashamed of the impunities they have committed and continue to commit through various sectors of his corrupt administration.
“Muhammadu Buhari led the federal government, quickly and rigorously developed the north central states, built and promoted modern rail transport in the northern states and Lagos state, including building a highway with crude oil money from the southeastern states.
“They displayed their hypocritical tendencies against the eastern region with reckless abandon. It is totally hypocritical and unacceptable that there is no money to finance the Eastern Railway project.
“MASSOB also disagrees with and rejects President Muhammadu Buhari’s federally led report that workers at China Civil Engineering and Construction Company are incessantly harassed by youths in Abia State.
“This Chinese construction company has not started its work in Abia State, even its staff is not in Abia State.”
