Some Royal family the experts were upset after learning Prince Harry and Meghan Markle he would receive a human rights award from Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights. Some experts believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have done the monarchy more harm than good.
After her revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, public opinion of the couple seemed to drop. A royal expert says Meghan and Harry “behave so badly” they make the rest of the royal family look even better.
Meghan and Harry make the royal family look better by ‘misbehaving’, says expert
Columnist David Aaronovitch wrote an opinion piece for The times, during which he assessed Meghan and Harry’s latest moves. He says they are “doing the monarchy a favour” by launching a storybook and Netflix documentary. According to him, his behavior is making the monarchy look good.
Royal commentator Lady Colin Campbell agrees with Aaronovitch. During an interview with GB News presenter Dan Woottonsays the duke and duchess make the monarchy look better by “misbehaving.”
“In fact, I’ve been saying for some time that Meghan and Harry, by being so bad, provide an absolute foil to well-behaved family members,” says Campbell. “And by doing so, they call attention to the good behavior of others, which might otherwise be ignored. Because good behavior is not something that attracts people’s attention, while bad behavior is.”
‘Not all publicity is good publicity’ says royal expert
Although Campbell says that Harry and Meghan make the royal family look good, she also says that they are “undermining the monarchy” at the same time. According to her, not all the publicity surrounding the Duke and Duchess is a good thing.
“Despite the fact that Meghan and Harry are the perfect fit and are somehow getting the attention of the family, I also believe that not all publicity is good publicity,” says Campbell. “And I think we need to take that into account. Because I think Meghan and Harry are too undermining the monarchy in which many people at least complain with me, [saying]’Why can’t the royal family stop bad behavior?’”
Campbell says that Meghan and Harry are free to do as they please, so there’s not much the royal family can do about it. They have freedom of expression like everyone else.
“People don’t seem to understand that Harry and Meghan have human rights too,” Campbell continues. “And the royal family is limited in how it can stop treasonous and disloyal members, as well as slanderous members of the royal family.”
Kate Middleton looks like ‘a future queen’, says Dan Wootton
Wootton says Harry and Meghan’s behavior stands out how majestic Kate Middleton is. He says that it’s obvious that Kate is fit to be queen. Wootton compares Meghan’s latest podcast track to Kate’s recent attendance at a state event.
“Of course, they have free speech, but I think what’s been so fascinating this week is seeing the contrast,” says Wootton. “So, you have Meghan talking about whores with her California friends of hers on a podcast that’s now on the charts because it’s so boring no one wants to listen to it. Rather, we have Kate looking like the perfect queen-to-be at a state event where she can really play a part on the international stage.”
Royal commentator Paul Dampier joins the conversation, saying the duke and duchess are getting harder to like. Says Dampier: “The more Meghan and Harry complain and explain what they’re doing, it’s the complete opposite of the Queen’s mantra ‘never complain, never explain’, the less you like them.”
