Two Septembers ago, it was like, ‘So what are we going to do with these songs? They’re just sitting there and they’ll never see the light of day,” Lambert explained.
She continued, “We had this crazy idea to record them and have them recorded in one take with a microphone. Once we got into it, it went much deeper than she thought emotionally. We had lived with these songs for so long and I was happy to put them on a recording.”
Miranda Lambert believes that the film of ‘The Marfa Tapes’ can be ‘scary’
In addition to the recorded album, there is also a movie from the album that was released. For The Marfa Tapes film, Lambert, Ingram and Randall perform together and also discuss the making of the album in interviews.
“We had a cameraman there to get some B-roll, I thought. Spencer Peeples made this beautiful movie. So, a movie and a double album: we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into. It’s one of my favorite things. There is nowhere to hide. And it’s not every day that fans get to hear the actual way the song begins, and how raw and scary it can be,” Lambert explained to Music Connection.
She continued: “I will always say forever that this is one of my favorite things I’ve ever been a part of.”
Some songs from ‘The Marfa Tapes’ are on ‘Palomino’
Speaking with Music Connection, Lambert opened up about his love for the song “Waxahachie” and its opening line.
“I feel that way too, it sets up the whole scene. You know a lot about this girl before you hear another word,” Lambert said. “For me, the first line of a song is one of the most important, because you have to prepare it. I want to write some of those opening lines that make you want to listen again because you weren’t paying enough attention and you don’t want to miss part of the story.”
