Nasarawa assembly summons contractor over slow work on Lafia city stadium

The Nasarawa State House of Representatives Sports and Youth Development Committee has summoned the Lafia City Stadium Upgrade Contractor to appear tomorrow, Thursday, December 15, 2022, to give an explanation on the slowness of work at the stadium in the city of Lafia.

Hon Musa Salihu Iyimoga, chairman of the committee, announced the call as the leadership of the Ministry of Youth and Sports appeared before the committee on their defense of the 2023 budget today in Lafia.

Iyimoga said the contractor’s invitation was to give him a chance to explain why the upgrade to Lafia City’s stadium awarded about two years ago has not yet been completed.

“Ours is to ensure that the right thing is done for the development of the state.

“We learned that the Lafia City Stadium upgrade was awarded last year and yet the job is not complete.

“There is a slow pace of the upgrade work. It is in view of this that I want to invite the contractor who is in charge of the project to appear before this commission tomorrow, Thursday, ”he said.

He praised the ministry for its good average performance in 2022 and called on them to do more.

He secured the commitment of the committee to support the ministry to success.

The president also assured Governor Abdullahi Sule that the Chamber is ready to establish synergies with him to promote youth and sports activities in the state.

Earlier, the Hon. Isaac Lucky Yargwa, Commissioner of the Ministry, praised Governor Sule and the committee for paying attention to youth and sports programs in the state.

Yargwa said Governor Sule’s effort in youth development has improved the living standards of the youth and other citizens of the state.

“His Excellency Eng. Abdullahi Sule has done well and continues to do well in promoting youth and sports activities in the state.

“I also want to congratulate you for always standing behind us supporting our activities to be successful at all times,” he said.

The Commissioner said that N208 million was the sum of the contract for the improvement of the Lafia City Stadium.

“Of the contract sum, N100 million was given to the contractor,” he said.

The Commissioner assured his willingness to promote youth and sports activities considering their importance for the development of youth and the State in general.
