The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has announced that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired), will introduce the newly designed naira banknotes on Wednesday.

Emefiele revealed this in Abuja during the monthly Monetary Policy Committee meeting on Tuesday.

The newly designed naira notes to be unveiled are N1,000, N500 and N200 notes.

According to the governor, the main bank would not change the January 31, 2023 deadline for all old notes to be deposited with commercial banks.

On October 26, 2022, Emefiele announced that CBN would issue the redesigned N200, N500 and N1,000 banknotes, effective December 15, 2022. However, it has said that CBN will not wait until December 15, but instead will be released on Wednesday, November 23. , 2022 (tomorrow).

He said: “100 days is enough for anyone anywhere in Nigeria to deposit their money in the bank and get their money when the new notes are issued.

“For information, in fact, we are no longer waiting until December 15 to reveal and start releasing the new notes.

“By the special grace of God, tomorrow, which is November 23, 2022, the President has kindly agreed to reveal the new coins and the new coins will be unveiled tomorrow in the Federal Executive Chamber at 10 am.”
