At a point, Quentin Tarantino not only directed the kill bill films. The filmmaker was to have a major role in his own hit film. But plans would soon change.
Quentin Tarantino originally studied to be an actor
When Tarantino initially sought a career in Hollywood, he didn’t always have directing in mind. The Oscar winner saw himself more as an actor. He even attended acting classes to help further enhance his on-screen talents. But doing so only unexpectedly helped a the writing of the young Tarantino.
“Because I didn’t study writing, I studied acting. And when I started writing, it was literally in acting classes, ”she once said in an interview with gross terry.
Tarantino would later find a fulfilling career in Hollywood as a writer and director. Still, the filmmaker would continue to act, sometimes even in his own movies. One of those movies would have included kill bill if Tarantino hadn’t changed his mind.
Why Quentin Tarantino Withdrew From ‘Kill Bill’
Tarantino initially envisioned himself playing Pei Mai in the Kill Bill Vol. two. Pei Mai was Uma Thurman’s loving and ruthless teacher in the martial arts project. Hong Kong film director and choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping convinced Tarantino to play the role.
“I trained for three months to do the fights and all that, and then what happened was… It was a suggestion from Yuen Woo-Ping that I play Pei Mai because he really liked the character she had and the voice she had. He said, ‘You’re going to be dissatisfied any other way, you have to play it,'” Tarantino recalled in an interview with phase 9.
Yet, directing and acting kill bill it might have been too much at the time. In fact, Tarantino thought he might enjoy kill bill except for starring in it.
“I was in the fourth week of shooting this epic battle scene, and firstly, I was having a great time directing, but secondly, it was so hard, so hard, that I was suddenly dreading the thought of directing and acting at the same time. time,” he said.
Tarantino ultimately decided to cast Gordon Liu as the character. It was a decision that worked out for the best thanks to Liu’s talent.
“He’s magnificent,” Tarantino said of the actor. “We were going to do it dubbed as a kung fu movie with slight New Zealand accents, but as time went on I fell in love with his acting so much that I wanted to have him voiced in an English movie for the first time. .”
Why Quentin Tarantino can’t see himself acting again
Although Tarantino has carved out quite a career for himself as an actor, he has doubts that he will continue acting in other films. As he gets older, Tarantino is much less likely to tolerate being on film sets.
“Time has passed, I don’t want to be in someone’s stupid movie,” Tarantino said in an interview with The Joe Rogan Experience. “Don’t fax me the fucking call sheets, and now I have to get up in the fucking morning. I have a wife and a son, I can’t spend 9 hours a day on your stupid shitty movie. There was a time, but that time has passed.”
