Ree Drummond and her husband Ladd are preparing to be empty nesters
On November 29, Drummond led instagram to share a photo of her and Ladd bundled up outside. She pointed out that they are training for the inevitable empty nest that is only a few weeks away.
“Todd will be leaving for college in five weeks, and Ladd and I are actively trying to set up new activities together as empty nesters approach,” he explained in the caption.
So we took the afternoon walk together now! Well, we have for the last two nights,” Drummond continued. “But still… I couldn’t wait to share the news. As we walk, we pick up trash that has come in from Kansas. So at least Ladd can tell himself that he’s working and not just walking. Friends, wish us luck.”
Some Drummond fans were shocked that Todd is leaving for college soon
Many of Drummond’s fans expressed their disbelief that Todd is heading off to college. “How is that possible?! I remember when you had little kids and just started blogging,” one person commented. “Come back when black heels to tractor wheels it was just a series of blog posts. Wild.”
Another fan asked, “How can Todd go to college? It was just yesterday that he was putting out cookies for Santa.”
One follower wrote: “Wow. I can’t believe you’re going to be empty nester! Where did the years go?

Some of Drummond’s supporters offered words of support. “It’s been a great time in our lives, but it’s a BIG adjustment,” wrote one fan. “It’s just the two of us again but with all the sweet layers of family we’ve created. And… your work as a parent continues, plus there’s that other gift from Grand Littles someday. Enjoy.”
Another fan shared some activities she has enjoyed during this next chapter in life, including traveling, volunteering, planting a garden, and attending basketball games.
One fan suggested ballroom dancing and others pitched the idea of pickleball. Ree posted a laughing and crying emoji in response, writing, “Oh my.”
Others thought that traveling was the perfect activity. “Wow, I feel like we all watched your kids grow up. Time went by so fast and you raised great children”, commented a follower. “Every empty nester I know took several vacations when their kids were out of the house.”
Another fan agreed, writing: “Time to travel seriously! Go for a walk in Europe.
One Drummond fan said simply: “Listen. You will all prosper. The empty nest is surprisingly a lot of fun.”
