After a decade of driving financial inclusion for individuals and small businesses in Nigeria, Renmoney Microfinance Bank held an event to engage with partners, investors, regulators, and business leaders about their experience and perspectives on investing in Africa.
One of the leading experts on emerging markets, Charlie Robertson, global chief economist at Renaissance Capital, delivered the keynote address at the event with the theme: ‘Going Long on Africa’. The event was held on December 1, 2022, at The Civic Center, Victoria Island, Lagos. A robust panel discussion with Mr. Robertson followed, joined by Mr. Stephen Jennings, Founder and Chairman of Renmoney, and Mr. Gbenga Oyebode MFR, Investor, Philanthropist and Founder of Aluko & Oyebode.
At the start of the event, Mr. Jennings reiterated the company’s long-term focus on Africa and Nigeria. According to him, “we are not only present in Nigeria; Through Rendeavor and Renmoney and my previous business, Renaissance Capital, we’ve been here for fifteen years in a very important way. Fundamentally, we are pioneers in emerging markets and They typically bring a level of commitment and staying power, in terms of people, capital and tenacity, that few foreign investors can match.” Mr Jennings described the level of ambition, commitment and resilience of shareholders, particularly in difficult markets, as unique and said they are excited about the next phase of market development in Nigeria.
