Q: I saw that you already told Mike Bloom that Jesse lied and said that Karla has the power. Therefore, that is why she got the idol back from her. How long before the tribal council He told you that?
Cody: You know, I had the idol. I got it from him. It was only a couple of hours before. And the whole time, Karla was unknowingly part of the storm saying, ‘Hey, let’s go in and make a tribe out of our idols and show everyone that we have them and we’re going to play with them.
And I’m like, ‘This is not adding up.’ She wants me to go in there and parade with this idol. My number one tells me that she can have knowledge is power. Has there never been a knowledge that power is played in the game yet? I’m going to trust my man, my main man here, and give it back to him because I didn’t see him playing that option, you know?
And I also wanted to return it to him at that moment, because it was also a sign of our trust. And by keeping that in that moment, then it probably puts a red line on him, what does Cody have planned?
Q: Did you want to go all the way with Jesse?
Cody: Yes.
Q: Did you think you could beat him?
Cody: Yes.

Q: Gabler planted the seed in Cassidy and Jesse that they needed to get rid of their closest allies. Did he ever talk to you about it? What do you think of his strategy?
Cody: I mean, Gabler made a comment. Obviously nothing was ever acted on from then on as maybe I don’t know, people didn’t take it seriously or what.
But Jesse and I handled the game very well in the sense that we didn’t show anyone that we were communicating, navigating, and influencing people’s decisions. Gabler made that comment, nothing happened when I sided with Gabler When the move was made yesterday, Gabler was my insurance policy. I figured if something went wrong, Gabler would be the one to set off the alarm bells and say, ‘Hey, Cody.’ Because that plan was never fully articulated to Gabler.
It was the same as always. ‘Hey, brother, let’s go for this person. OKAY? OKAY.’ So because of that, by not telling you the full plan, I thought there was an insurance plan in there. That if Jesse decided to do something crazy, Gabler would have informed me. But that didn’t happen.
Cody reacts to Jesse’s motive for betraying him
Q: How did it feel to see Jesse cry, saying that he loved you but that he needs the million for his family?
Cody: No comment. Yes. You know, I get it. I don’t blame him for the move he made. He had to. It was the right decision. I can’t blame him for that. You know, as the guy on the blunt end, it’s just hard, I didn’t think morally that was an option. You know, I, I didn’t think about it, you know. It is Survivor. It’s a game. And that depends on me.
But, we all need the damn money, you know. We all need the money. I have family, I have friends, I have bills. Like, no one needs that money any differently than anyone else, so I get it.
Will Cody change his loyal strategy if he plays ‘Survivor’ again?
Q: It’s quite possible that your blindside will be added to the list of biggest moves in the new era of gaming. How does it feel?
Cody: It sucks, but you know that blind side. I told myself I can’t be nice in Iowa and have this aloha spirit in the game. And I guess it just shows, unfortunately, who I am as a person, you know, and I’m okay with that.
It’s a game, you know, and I’d rather be added to the other winners list, No doubt about it. But, you know, I’ve got $1,000,000 worth of danes and browns to blame.
Q: If you play again, will you be a less loyal player?
Cody: That’s a secret. I can’t say. That’s going to blow my next chance. [smiles.]
