In addition to a persistent rain or snow shower along the East Coast, dry conditions and cold air are expected across the Northeast today.
The same area of high pressure that brings drier air will allow for dry conditions throughout the Southeast and also in the Ohio Valley and Midwest.
Meanwhile, a powerful storm will be building in the Rocky Mountains. Periods of snow will persist along the Intermountain West with persistent rain or snow showers in the mountains in Southern California.
Ahead of this storm, a surge of moisture in the Gulf will bring the risk of severe thunderstorms to northern Texas and parts of Oklahoma and Kansas later in the day; the storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, hail, and one or two tornadoes overnight.
