Twitter closes offices amid mass worker resignation

A few weeks of Elon Musk’s leadership of Twitter has thrown the social media company into chaos, culminating in the closure of its global offices on Thursday.

An email from the company informed employees that all Twitter offices around the world are temporarily closed and will reopen on November 21. The company did not give any reason for closing the offices.

Nairametrics understands that the shutdown came hours after the deadline for Twitter workers to officially sign off on Elon Musk’s “extremely tough” new plans for the company expired.

Less than 50% of the company’s remaining 4,000 employees have reportedly signed up to work under the new condition.

Mass resignation: Since Musk’s mass layoff of 3,700 employees went into effect, more company staff have voluntarily resigned, forcing the company to clamp down.

Between yesterday and today there have been massive resignations from Twitter. Many of the company’s former employees took to the microblogging site to announce their departure. The development has prompted Twitter users to express concern that the company could collapse soon.

In recent days, different hashtags related to Twitter have been trending, including RIPTwitter Y GoodbyeTwitter.

New Twitter Policy: Meanwhile, in another company development, Twitter posted a policy change saying newly created Twitter accounts will have to wait 90 days before they can sign up for the new Twitter Blue plan and be verified. This comes as an attempt by the microblogging site to prevent phishing and verified account spam.

  • “Newly created Twitter accounts will not be able to subscribe to Twitter Blue for 90 days. We may also impose waiting periods for new accounts in the future at our discretion and without notice.” the company stated on its Twitter Blue FAQ page.
