Tariku Birhanu was a young Ethiopian actor, director, producer and artist. He was born in 1977 (12 months of the Ethiopian calendar) and grew up in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Birhanu started acting at a very young age and grew up as the new prodigy of the film industry.
He worked in more than 40 Amharic films in his temporary but memorable acting career. Some of his most notable performances came in films like Laundry Boy, Love and Facebook, The Engineers, Kebad Mizan, Abat Hager, Martreza, Wondime Yakob, and Ye’Arada Lij.
In addition to being a flawless artist, Birhanu was also a champion of the work of the Ethiopian Eye Bank. It is an establishment that works for the reversal of corneal blindness in the country through the collection and processing of corneas from donors.

Tariku Birhanu died out of nowhere on Sunday, December 10, 2022. He was only 38 years old. Birhanu died in Addis Ababa, the city where he grew up and used to live. The younger artist had fallen ill these days and could not recover.
The tragic news of the death of Tariku Birhanu when he was very young was announced by the Ethiopian Eye Bank. The institution revealed the heartbreaking news in an emotional Facebook post.
“We convey our deepest condolences to his family. He was considered one of our ambassadors and pledged to donate his cornea upon his death,” his post states.
