WhatsApp has been working on multiple features for its messaging app. The company tests these features with a limited number of beta users before making them available to the masses. Among the list of upcoming WhatsApp features are a couple of new ones that have been spotted online. WABetaInfo, the tracking website for various WhatsApp updates, has detected some beta features being tested on the iOS and Android apps.
The Android beta app has been seen to add new emojis, which are currently under development. WABetaInfo also spotted a new beta feature in the iOS app. The new WhatsApp beta app for iOS tests the ability to search for messages by date. Let’s take a look at more details about the upcoming WhatsApp features detected in the beta version.
Two new incoming WhatsApp features
WhatsApp has released a new update through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.22.25.12 on Android. The latest update features new emojis, which will be released in the next update.
WABetInfo claimed that the Meta-owned company is working on 21 new emojis, which are currently in development. The messaging app has also quietly redesigned eight emojis in the beta app. The screenshot below shows the new emojis along with the ones that have been redesigned. All eight emojis were updated in the latest Play Store beta and 21 upcoming emojis are planned to be released to all beta testers at a later date, according to WABetaInfo.
The company also updated its iOS app to iOS version 22.24.0.77. This new iOS beta app is testing a feature that gives users the ability to search for messages by date. Users will finally be able to jump to a particular date in the conversation if they don’t know the exact word that was used in the chat. WABetaInfo revealed that the feature was in development two years ago, but WhatsApp recently redeveloped it.

Some beta users can use the search function in a chat. If the calendar icon appears, it means that the feature is enabled for your WhatsApp account. You can then set the date and jump right into the conversation.
If you can’t see the calendar icon, WABetaInfo indicates that the feature will be available at a later date. More users should be a part of the beta test in the coming weeks.
There is no word on when the feature will be available to all users. Considering that they are in the early stages of development, it may take some time for WhatsApp to roll out the new features.
